MAL is Murutaibo

After we decoded the recently-uploaded page from Schoenberg’s notebook, things have been moving on at a rapid pace.

Over on Rach’s blog, Tilly has put together a really interesting theory which she outlines in a couple of comments.

From what I gather (I didn’t know him (obviously), but from the things people have said and written) your uncle was a good man and would never intentionally harm anyone, therfore my conclusion is he was there for his own scientific research and that Prometha had him followed (knowing that he was probably onto something, they would have at least known he was an excellent scientist. I would have thought they would know he wouldn’t go all the way to Peru without at least some evidence that there was something interesting there) and stole his ideas\work and then tried to destroy the evidence.

So - how do we get concrete evidence?

I think what I’m thinking of doing is justified by the facts of the case. We’ve come this far, I think we owe it to ourselves to see this through despite the risks.

Quick thoughts about Jim Malham

Sorry if this comes out in a blurt. I’m trying to be a professional here but I’ve got about three litres of adrenaline still flowing through my veins. Finding it difficult to even sit still.

We picked up a business card that had stuff scrawled on it. Could be useful, could be nothing at all. Sam R wanted me to post a picture of it, so here goes:

We found Malham

We drove to Jim Malham’s address. If you’re just catching up, he’s the guy we think had something to do with Markus’ death.

This was the most shocking thing I’ve ever seen. The footage we took contains a dead body. If you’re nervous/squeamish/don’t like horror films don’t watch it. Believe me, it was worse in person.

At the gig

LOTS to talk about after the weekend just passed.

I’ve got tons of footage from Katherine Ryan’s comedy gig, and so’s Fluffy, and we’ll try to pull it together and post it as soon as possible. But in the meantime, Tom Boxall has posted this film clip to Facebook.

We went there to try to find Aalia and she showed up, which was great. Not so great was that a couple of other people seemed interested in her too. Things nearly got nasty; we were grateful to have so many helpful friends in the crowd, otherwise it could have gone badly wrong.

Watch this space for the conversation we had back-stage with Aalia.

An address for “Mylo”

This is really exciting news.

We have an address for Jim Malham.

I have to say Emma, his very nice relative who makes an excellent cup of tea, was quite worried about all the email she’d had from people asking after Jim. So I’ve soothed those concerns and come away with the information we need.

It’s time to pay someone a visit.

Backstage with Aalia

Before we smuggled her away from Hoxton Hall, I spoke to Aalia Nazim.

Bits of that conversation have made it into Fluffy’s latest catch-up.

She was understandably shaken to be trailed to the gig. Initially she thought that it was us who’d been followed rather than her, and she might be right about that. But once we were there it was clear who was the focus of unwanted attention.

At least we’re confident that nobody knows where she’s staying and that she got home without being tracked.

For me, the big revelation of the night was hearing that Prometha is in bad shape financially. The credit crunch has apparently dried up hope of speculative investment by venture capitalists. They’re relying on MAL to salvage the share price. Though you wouldn’t know it to talk to the CEO.

Emma Bracewell gets in touch

Have a listen to this:

Phone Message

That, my friends, is the sound of progress! I’m going to go and meet her and hopefully return with an address for her elusive relative ‘Mylo’ Malham.

More Code

Just a quick heads-up before I leave for the gig: it looks like the police in Peru have posted another notebook page.

1314-libreta4

We got some way towards decoding the last set thanks to Mike, but perhaps someone can do better on the new one?

Bugged

My flat has been bugged.

After we found the device hidden in the book case we hooked it up - it’s a very simple piece of kit, a USB jack, no encryption or anything - we downloaded some of the footage:

I now assume that whoever was here previously was downloading more footage from this camera.

I’ve posted the device’s details in a photo:-

surveilteq_device_01_flat

I’m now in the process of getting the most expensive locks money can buy put onto every entry point in the flat.

UPDATE: Thought about calling the police in but not sure I want to have to explain everything that’s been going on. Is that dumb of me? Thoughts?

Paranoid or just cautious?

I believe that somebody has been in my flat. I’m quite meticulous about how I organise my things, and nobody has been here since I left, and yet things have changed. Locks are all intact, nothing nicked, and there’s a definite chance I’m wrong and just making a fuss. But I’m not happy.
