Darwin vs. slavery
200 years since his birth and 150 since “Origin” was published. Darwin is going to own 2009.
We have a campaign to make his birthday on Feb 12th a national holiday.
We have a strong revival of that good old-fashioned church vs. science debate, currently squabbling over Darwin’s role in the “intelligent design” vs. atheists bun-fight.
And of course we have new books.
The latest Darwin book-story to hit the headlines concerns a new work called “Darwin’s Sacred Cause”, which proposes that “Darwin was finally goaded into starting his work on the origins of man in 1865 by a rising tide of scientific belief that the races were separate species.”
Sounds interesting. Must get that Amazon wish-list set up!
